In January 2009 i ordered a replacement for the older (as in grandfather) T43 of mine,
i really wanted a Thinkpad T-series in p-class: Now i have a Thinkpad T60p with a slightly
old CPU (no EMT64, only 2 MB Cache, but HW virtualization).
For the better or worse I choose 3 operating systems to run on it (insane? yes), i strongly think
the Debian Linux with my favored config is running in regular operation:
Windows 7 (playing around)
OpenBSD 4.4 (BIGLOCK (only 1 cpu for kernel processes) SMP)
Debian GNU/Linux Lenny with Xfce and friends
Content:
- CPU Intel Pentium Core Duo T2700, 2,3 Ghz (low freq. 1,0 Ghz), 2 MB Cache
- RAM 2 GB DDR2 RAM (2597 MB/sec throughput)
- HDD 100 GB SATA HDD (29 MB/sec Write, 24 MB/sec Read)
- DVD Thinkpad Ultrabay Slim Multi DVD Burner (DVD+-RW, CD/RW, DVD/RAM)
- Gfx ATI M56GL [Mobility FireGL V5200] 256 MB VRAM
- Screen 14,1" SXGA+ (1400x1050 pxl) Display
- USB 3 * USB2.0 Full-Speed Ports (1 left, 2 right)
- WLAN 802.11 a/b/g Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG [Golan] Chipset
- LAN Intel 82573L Gigabit Ethernet Interface
- PCMCIA 2 * PCMCIA type 2 ports
- VGA Only 1 display output, VGA
Installation of Windows 7 Beta1 was quite easy and finished with no error.
After installation I went on with the graphics driver from Lenovo (Vista driver).
With no additional driver, everything worked except:
- Biometric sensor
- Bluetooth support
- Modem (56k)
Boot time from Startup to Windows Explorer Shell: 50sec
Running Debian 5.0 (lenny) with 2.6.28 - silent operation. I like it.
Again, the thinkfan software is helping out to get a more quiet Thinkpad.
Thinkfan
is available on Sourceforge. Be careful!
